AAPI Owned Bookstores to Support Now and Always

I wanted to highlight some Asian-owned bookshops because I feel like these places do not get enough credit. It is essential to support Asian-owned businesses now and forever, and I hope this list makes it easier for you to find stores while you go book shopping! Make sure to click the names of the stores, for they will take you directly to their site.

  1. Arkipelago Books

    1. San Fransisco, CA

    2. This store has a mission to support and uplift Filipino books and culture across the globe.

  2. Eastwind Books

    1. Berkeley, CA

    2. They currently have curbside pickup in order to be Covid safe. They have a book fest that honors Vietnamese authors and hosts virtual (and in-person pre-Covid) author events.

  3. Maomi Bookstore

    1. Atlanta, GA

    2. This is a Chinese bookstore and cafe located in the heart of Atlanta’s Chinatown. They even have their own tea!

  4. A Good Used Book

    1. Los Angeles, CA

    2. In the heart of Koreatown, if you need used books and cute bookish merchandise check out this adorable store. They also have book sales on their Instagram stories.

  5. Waucoma Books

    1. Hood River, OR

    2. This store supports Pacific Northwest authors and publishers. They have extensive curated lists, journals, and other adorable bookish merchandise.

  6. Townie Books

    1. Crested Brutte, CO

    2. They have tons of book clubs and events, as well as a cafe and curated tea and coffee.

  7. Orphan Books

    1. This is a mobile bookshop supporting a bookseller in Los Angeles.

    2. They hope to open their own bookstore, so buying through them supports a (hopefully) new book shop. And, they have curated recommendations from unique sort of book categories.

  8. Bel Canto Books

    1. Long Beach, CA

    2. They host book clubs and different reading challenges. Their slogan is “think, read. sing” which I think is just amazing.
