February Mid-Month Wrap Up

The first half of this month was a great reading month, considering it is mid term season now. And it has slowed down because of one book in particular, but I am seeing it beginning to pick up again.

So far this month I have read 7 books so far this month. I am currently in the middle of four books as well. I am about 100 pages into House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas and I am really enjoying it so far. For my Women in Politics club in college we’re reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It is one of my favorite books of all time and I am having such an amazing time with this reread, even though I cannot stop crying while listening to it. It has even been so much fun listening with my roommate. For a bookclub, I have read the first half of A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab. I am really enjoying this reread and I am thrilled to be back in this world. And I am also reading The Good House by Tananarive Due. This is the book that has been giving me trouble. While I am really enjoying the book, it is so slow. I feel like it’s dragging, and I really want to just continue with my TBR. So, for right now I am going to be putting it down, but it’s not forever. I will be picking it up again in the future because it is quite good, but just too slow for this busy month.

The only book left I had left on my TBR is The Graveyard Apartment by Mariko Koike. However, a problem has arisen for this book. To prepare for Blackathon, I read a bunch of lists recommending horror books by Black authors. The Graveyard Apartment was suggested, and I decided to read it. But the book is not written by a Black author. I do want to read this book at some point because it does seem really good, but it’s not Black written and so it does not fit into the TBR and my own personal goals this month. So, I am technically done with my TBR now, but I am still actively reading books on my TBR and there were so many books I wanted to get to, so it works out well enough. But that’s the biggest update to my TBR for this month.

Here are the books I have read so far this month. A full rating will come at the end of the month.

  1. A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabos

  2. Frostheart by Jamie Littler

  3. The Golden Compass Graphic Novel by Stéphane Melchoir-Durand and Philip Pullman

  4. The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club by Alex Bell

  5. Don’t Call Us Dead: Poems by Danez Smith

  6. Wife of the Gods by Kwei Quartey

  7. The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle

Besides these books, I have a really fun blog post coming up and some Instagram photos I think are really fun. I’m hoping the second portion of this month goes smoothly as well. I really hope to read more books by Black authors because I have been loving exploring books I normally wouldn't. So far, this month has been good and I am hoping it continues that way.
