February TBR and Reading Plans

How is it possible that the shortest month of the year feels like the longest? I don't have that many books on my TBR, but I feel like a lot of them are a bit thick. There are also so many other books besides the ones on my TBR that I want to read. So, I feel like this is going to be a heavy reading month for me, and I’m not mad at it.

I have a few readathon plans for this month. The first readathon I am focusing is Polarthon, hosted by Jadeyraereads. It is happening the first week of the month (Feb 1-7). It is an entire readathon inspired by Polar reads; basically anything cold. There are four teams, and I am on team Walrus hosted by How to Train Your Gavin. I really don’t often read polar fantasy, or really anything with a cold setting, so I’m, excited to see what I have been missing. Check out the announcement video here.

TBR:

  • Dive In: A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos

  • Dark Cover: The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

  • Arctic Setting: Frostheart by Jamie Litter

  • Polar Fantasy: any of my picks fit

  • Dark Waters: I am still waiting on a book I am hoping another book I read has dark water but if not I will fit it in

The next readathon I am participating in is Blackathon, which is hosted by Jesse. Jesse has put so much time and effort (and love) into this readathon. They created it to celebrate Black authors and Black stories, and also to support Black creators. Along with the reading challenges, they have put together three teams, Instagram challenges, giveaways, and even a writing challenge. I am on Team Horror/Thriller hosted by Jesse. I love horror and thrillers, and I am lacking in reading diversity in this genre, so I am excited to dip my toes in the water and continue my reading of Black authors in this genre the rest of the year (and the rest of my reading). I am a full-time student with very little time, so I will not be participating in the Instagram challenges. I cannot wait to see what people post though! For more information, check out the announcement video here.

TBR:

  • Megan Giddings: The Graveyard Apartment by Mariko Koike

  • Victor LaValle: The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle

  • Rachel Howzell: The Good House by Tananarive Due

  • Group Book: Wife of the Gods by Kwel Quartey

There is one more readathon, and I am not sure if I will be participating. I participated last year and had fun, but I think three readathons may be a bit much. But, if other books and the books on my TBR fit in to the prompts, then I will do my best. I am not sure though. It is Demonathon hosted by Yumi. Again, she puts a ton of work into the readathon, and it is so fun, but three readathons is a lot.

Besides the readathon books, I am reading two other books for book clubs. I will be reading These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong for Books with Chloe’s Patreaon bookclub. I will also be reading A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab for the Weekend Book Club over on Instagram. This is a reread for me, but I have been looking for an excuse to reread this book for a long time and now I finally have the chance. I am also buddy reading House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas with my best friend Sari aka @wowiread on Instagram. We both have never read it but want to, and our buddy reads are always the best so I’m pumped about this one as well.

It is a lot of reading for the month, but I am so excited to jump on into these stories. I hope to read more books than this as well, but only time will tell.
