This was a fun time. Middle grade is not my favorite thing to read in general, so the three star rating is more from my personal preference rather than the story itself. That being said, this story was really great! I found myself falling into the whimsy (albeit not as much as I would have liked, but I could definitely see a kid falling even harder) of the world. I thought the characters were really great; they were fun and complex. I enjoyed reading about the idea of the Song Weavers, and all the other magic in the world. I find the themes of family and the idea of a found family so heartwarming. Overall, this was a great time. I would recommend this middle grade to almost anyone. It has the perfect mix of whimsy, stakes, and hints of darkness that really make this story great. The illustrations are also such a great addition; I really loved that aspect of the novel. If you need some fun, polar fun, I would recommend picking up this novel.
