Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

TW: mental health/illness

Grace Porter finally got her Ph.D. in astronomy and cannot wait to take her friends to celebrate in Las Vegas. But on the last drunken night of their stay, Grace marries a woman she cannot remember. With this in conjunction with her confusion about her life's next stages, all she needs is a break. Except, that break comes with more strings and wives, she ever bargained for.

This book was really, really good. The only reason it’s not a full five-star is that it did take me some time to get into the story fully. But once I was in, I was hooked. The character work is fantastic, the plot is well done, and it melds both romance and real-life toughness together beautifully.

I loved the relationship between Grace and Yuki. And Grace’s friend group is truly a joy to read about. Each character felt developed and well-rounded.

I’m trying not to spoil the events that make this book touching, so bear with me. Grace’s familial interactions are heartbreaking and beautiful. They feel real as if I am watching people that actually exist. I love what this book has to say about mental illness and therapy. It’s a very positive book, even with all of the negative attached to it.

I am not normally an adult romance reader, but this book makes me want to read more from that genre. It was touching and adorable but also sad. It made a statement. I highly recommend this read to anyone looking to feel seen about being a confused twenty-something.
